Our score: 4.5 out of 5. betr is one of the strongest wagering products in Australia and one of the more frustrating companies to deal with when something goes sideways. Both are true, and an honest betr review says so in the first paragraph rather than the last. The product is good: Sky Racing 1 and 2 streaming inside the app, Same Game Multis up to twelve legs, all three racing codes, and withdrawals processed several times a day, seven days a week.
Where it comes unstuck is account handling. Trustpilot sits at 1.8 out of 5, ProductReview at 1.2, and the complaints cluster around one pattern: identity documents requested at payout time instead of at sign-up. betr suits punters who want deep racing coverage and a fast, feature-heavy app, and who will finish verification before the first deposit. Anyone planning to withdraw a large win from an account that was never properly verified should look elsewhere.
Who is actually behind betr?
You are betting with betr Entertainment Aus Pty Ltd, ABN 42 607 521 835, an active Australian private company registered on 7 August 2015. Its parent is betr Entertainment Limited, listed on the ASX as BBT. That matters more than it sounds: a listed parent files results and discloses material changes, which is visibility no offshore bookie will ever give you.

The history confuses plenty of review sites, so here is the actual sequence. BlueBet was founded in 2015 by Michael Sullivan and listed on the ASX on 2 July 2021. A separate brand called betr launched in 2022, founded by Matt Tripp and Michael Sullivan with News Corp backing; News Corp sold out in October 2023. Their merger was announced in April 2024 (BlueBet issued 265.4 million shares to betr shareholders, about 56.9 per cent of the combined company) and completed on 1 July 2024. On 14 August 2024 the whole consumer product was rebranded to betr, still running on BlueBet’s platform. The Android package name is still au.com.bluebet.
The TopSport acquisition closed on 1 April 2025, and on 9 April 2025 BlueBet Holdings Ltd was renamed betr Entertainment Limited. One thing betr did not do is buy PointsBet. That bid failed in September 2025 and PointsBet went to MIXI, so a review still crediting betr with the purchase is running on old copy. More on the full company history and ownership structure.
Is betr legit and safe?
Yes, betr is a legitimate licensed Australian bookmaker. Since 7 July 2026 it has held a Tasmanian Gaming Licence from the Tasmanian Liquor and Gaming Commission for a five-year term, having moved across from a Northern Territory licence. Tasmania does not publish operator licence numbers, so any site quoting a specific number for betr invented it.
What the licence buys you is recourse. A licensed operator is bound by the National Consumer Protection Framework: no credit cards or credit lines since June 2024, mandatory deposit-limit tools, monthly activity statements, simplified account closure and staff training. If betr voids a bet or holds a payout, you have a regulator to escalate to. On an offshore site you have no dispute path and no enforceable rule on how quickly you get paid, and once the operator stops answering email that is the end of it. That is the whole argument for staying with a domestically licensed book, and we unpack it on the page covering betr’s Tasmanian licence and regulator.
Verification cannot be deferred. Since 29 September 2024 AUSTRAC has required online wagering providers to complete identity checks before the account is opened and before the first bet. betr runs an automatic electronic check at sign-up; when it fails to match, it asks for a driver licence, passport or a selfie holding your ID. Accounts are strictly 18+, and every Australian licensee is connected to BetStop, the national self-exclusion register run by the ACMA since August 2023.
What you can bet on
Racing is where betr is strongest. Thoroughbred, greyhound and harness all get fixed odds plus a Tote Single that settles at the parimutuel dividend. Sport spans AFL, NRL, cricket, soccer including the EPL, NBA, NFL, MLB, UFC and tennis.
The multi tools are the headline. Same Game Multi takes up to twelve legs on AFL, NRL, NFL, NBA, MLB, EPL and cricket. Same Race Multi combines up to four outcomes from one race. Twelve legs is at the generous end of the market and is the feature most punters notice moving across from a smaller book. See the sports markets and multi rules at betr and betr racing coverage across all three codes.
One legal point trips people up: online in-play betting is prohibited under the Interactive Gambling Act 2001, for every Australian licensee including betr. In-play bets are taken by telephone only. Any review claiming you can bet live in the betr app is wrong. Cash Out is available on selected racing singles, fixed-odds multis and selected sports events — it is not universal, so check the bet slip before relying on it.
The features that make betr different
- Sky Racing 1 and 2 streaming, live vision for all three codes plus replays, on web and app. For a racing punter this alone justifies the account.
- Blackbook with SMS alerts. Add a horse, greyhound or pacer to a watchlist and betr texts you when it next runs.
- Racing Live Tracker puts your bet on the lock screen without opening the app: Fixed Win, Place and Tote Single on AU and NZ thoroughbred racing, from about ten minutes before the jump.
- Wildcards let you activate or change a Same Game Multi mid-match. Launched at AFL Wildcard Round, now on all AFL fixtures.
- StatWars: head-to-head player statistics for AFL, NBA and NFL, off official league data.
- Box Challenge and Jockey Challenge ask which box or jockey scores most on a 3-2-1 format.
Two things we will not oversell. G1 Futures is promoted on the betr home page and looks like a futures market on Group 1 races, but no mechanics are published — treat the banner as a signpost, not a described product. The “Blackbook AI” label is marketing: the documented functionality is a watchlist plus an SMS alert, with no AI layer described anywhere. Anyone selling betr as having an AI tipping engine is filling a gap betr itself left blank.
The betr app
The iOS app is published by betr Entertainment Aus Pty Ltd and rates 4.6 out of 5 from roughly 23,000 ratings. It weighs 133 MB, needs iOS 16.1 or later, is rated 18+ and sits around #30 in the Sports category on the Australian App Store. The Android build ships under au.com.bluebet; betr publishes no consolidated Google Play figure and third-party sources contradict each other, so we are not quoting one.
Note how far apart the App Store score and the review-site scores sit. The 4.6 measures whether the app is quick and stable in daily use, and it earns that. The 1.8 and 1.2 below measure what happens when you try to take money out. You are effectively reading scorecards for two departments that happen to share a logo. Our hands-on breakdown of the betr app on iOS and Android goes deeper on install and the lock-screen tracker.
Deposits, withdrawals and how quickly you get paid
Minimum deposit is $5 on most methods, with no fees and no daily caps. Accepted: debit Visa and Mastercard, PayID, PayPal, Apple Pay, Google Pay and bank transfer, the last taking one to 48 hours. Credit cards and credit lines have been banned nationally since June 2024, which is federal law and binds every bookmaker licensed here. POLi is still listed by lazy review sites; it shut down in Australia on 30 September 2023. Full list on the deposit methods betr accepts.
| Withdrawal route | Typical timing | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Rapid Withdrawals | Within a few hours | Processed multiple times a day, seven days a week, including weekends and public holidays, where your bank supports fast payments |
| PayPal | Up to one business day | Requires a verified PayPal account in your own name |
| International transfer | 2–5 business days | Overseas banking details, slowest route |
That schedule is one of the better ones going — most books batch withdrawals once a business day. betr does not publish a minimum withdrawal amount for Australian accounts, so we will not guess one. What triggers a hold is covered on betr withdrawal times and payout routes.

Complaints: what punters actually say
This is the section most betr reviews skip, and the one that should decide whether you open the account.
| Source | Rating | Reviews | What it actually measures |
|---|---|---|---|
| Apple App Store | 4.6 / 5 | ≈23,000 ratings | App speed, stability, features, streaming quality |
| Trustpilot | 1.8 / 5 | 26 reviews, 15 in the last 12 months; 92% one-star | Payout disputes, account restrictions, support response |
| ProductReview.com.au | 1.2 / 5 | 71 reviews | Withdrawal experience, voided bets, complaint handling |
Those review counts are small (26 and 71), and punters with a smooth withdrawal rarely write about it, so neither figure is a clean read on the whole customer base. The pattern inside them is the useful part, and it repeats across both platforms independently:
- Withdrawals delayed or held while extra documents are requested, often beyond a standard ID check and asked for at payout rather than at sign-up.
- Accounts restricted or promo-banned shortly after a win. Stake limiting is legal and every corporate book does it, but punters report it arriving abruptly and unexplained.
- Winning bets voided after settlement, usually attributed to a pricing or market error.
- Slow support, with emails reported unanswered for weeks.
- Bets “disappearing” from the app between placement and settlement.
Now the practical part. Almost every one of those stories starts the same way: a partially verified account that only gets scrutinised once there is money to pay out. You can remove most of that risk yourself.
- Finish verification before you deposit a cent. Upload the licence or passport at sign-up, not at withdrawal. AUSTRAC requires it before your first bet anyway.
- Withdraw only to an account in your own name. The name and the spelling have to match the betting account exactly. Mismatched or third-party accounts are the most common trigger for a hold.
- Screenshot every significant bet at placement, showing selection, price and bet ID. If a bet is later voided or vanishes, that screenshot is the difference between a dispute and a shrug.
- Keep the complaint trail in writing. Email rather than chat, so you have a timestamped record to hand the Tasmanian Liquor and Gaming Commission if it comes to that.
Do those four things and most of the failure modes in those reviews stop applying to you. Skip them and you are the next one-star.
Pros and cons
What betr does well
- Sky Racing 1 and 2 streaming free inside the app, all three codes plus replays
- Twelve-leg Same Game Multis and four-leg Same Race Multis
- Rapid Withdrawals processed multiple times daily, seven days a week
- Racing tools nobody else has bothered to build: Blackbook SMS alerts, Live Tracker, Box and Jockey Challenge
- ASX-listed parent, Tasmanian licence, full NCPF consumer protections
- 4.6-rated iOS app, $5 minimum deposit, no deposit fees
Where betr falls short
- Trustpilot 1.8 and ProductReview 1.2, with 92 per cent of Trustpilot reviews at one star
- Documents repeatedly requested at payout time rather than at registration
- Reports of account restrictions and promo bans following wins
- Support response times criticised on both review platforms
- No minimum withdrawal, live chat hours or Google Play rating published, so basic disclosures are missing
- G1 Futures and “Blackbook AI” promoted without documented mechanics
- No online in-play betting, though that is federal law rather than a betr failing

from 318 reader reports
betr gets the product right — Sky Racing inside the app, twelve-leg Same Game Multis and payouts processed seven days a week. Where it loses ground is verification: documents get requested at payout time, and that single habit drives most of its one-star reviews.
Verdict: who should use betr, and who shouldn’t
betr is a serious racing book with a strong app and a payout schedule most rivals do not match. If you bet Australian and New Zealand racing, want vision without a separate subscription and build multis rather than singles, it sits near the top of the domestic market. Blackbook alerts and the lock-screen tracker do change how you use the phone on a Saturday.
It is a poor fit if you want a bookmaker you never have to think about administratively. Verification requests land late and restrictions arrive without warning, and support tends to be slowest at exactly the wrong moment. If your plan involves large withdrawals from a lightly verified account, either do the verification work first or pick a different operator. Offers for existing customers are covered on the current betr promotions for existing customers, and the wider picture of the operator sits on betr Australia.

FAQ
Is betr legit?
Yes. betr is operated by betr Entertainment Aus Pty Ltd, ABN 42 607 521 835, a subsidiary of ASX-listed betr Entertainment Limited (BBT). It has held a Tasmanian Gaming Licence from the Tasmanian Liquor and Gaming Commission since 7 July 2026, for a five-year term.
Is betr safe to use?
Safe in the regulatory sense: your account is covered by the National Consumer Protection Framework, identity verification is mandatory before your first bet, and there is a regulator to escalate disputes to. The risk is administrative rather than existential — payouts can be delayed while documents are checked. Verifying fully before you deposit removes most of it.
Is betr real money betting?
Yes. betr takes real-money wagers from Australian residents aged 18 and over, with a $5 minimum deposit on most methods. It is not a free-to-play or fantasy product. Note that betr.app in the United States is a completely separate company and nothing here applies to it.
Does betr have a welcome bonus?
No, and no Australian bookmaker can offer one. Advertising an inducement to open a betting account is prohibited across all Australian jurisdictions, and the ban on sign-up offers is part of the National Consumer Protection Framework. Any site promising you one is either operating illegally or lying. Offers for customers who already hold an account are a separate, legal category.
Did betr merge with BlueBet?
Yes. The merger completed on 1 July 2024 and the consumer product was rebranded to betr on 14 August 2024, still running on BlueBet’s platform. The holding company was renamed from BlueBet Holdings Ltd to betr Entertainment Limited on 9 April 2025. There is no separate BlueBet app any more.
How long do betr withdrawals take?
Rapid Withdrawals are processed several times a day, seven days a week, and can land within a few hours where your bank supports fast payments. PayPal takes up to one business day; international transfers take two to five business days. Delays almost always come from incomplete verification rather than the payment rail.
Does betr have live betting?
Not online. Online in-play betting is prohibited under the Interactive Gambling Act 2001, so no Australian licensee offers it. In-play bets are taken by telephone only. Cash Out on selected racing singles, fixed-odds multis and selected sports events is the closest thing to in-running control in the app.
