Same question every season: is betr actually better than Sportsbet, or just newer and louder? betr is the youngest of the big Australian brands, it has absorbed two rivals in under two years, and it sells itself on shipping features first. Sportsbet, TAB, Ladbrokes and Neds have been around long enough that you probably already hold an account with one of them.
Here’s how the five line up on the things that change your Saturday: licence, racing, multi tools, app, payout speed and reputation.
Why some cells in our table are empty
We publish a figure only where we checked it ourselves (on the operator’s own site, its help centre or its App Store listing), and we date the check. betr publishes plenty: maximum multi legs, withdrawal cadence, minimum deposit. The others publish less, and several of their help pages would not open for us at all.
Where that happened the cell says Not verified by us or Not published. It never says zero, and it never repeats a number lifted from another comparison site. Researching this page we found two different “maximum legs” figures for the same bookmaker on two comparison sites in the same week. One is wrong; neither admits it.
Who actually runs Australian online betting in 2026
Five brands take most of the online turnover, and they trace back to four owners.
- Sportsbet belongs to Flutter Entertainment. The biggest online book here.
- TAB sits under Tabcorp, the only one with retail outlets and tote pools.
- Ladbrokes and Neds are both Entain: one owner, shared platform, two marketing voices.
- betr answers to betr Entertainment Limited (ASX: BBT), operating as betr Entertainment Aus Pty Ltd.
betr’s corporate story is messier than the logo suggests. BlueBet launched in 2015 under Michael Sullivan and listed on the ASX in July 2021; a separate betr launched in 2022 backed by Matt Tripp, Sullivan and News Corp. They merged on 1 July 2024, the consumer product became betr on 14 August 2024, and BlueBet Holdings was renamed betr Entertainment Limited on 9 April 2025. Licences: who is regulated where
betr changed jurisdictions this year. The Tasmanian Liquor and Gaming Commission granted it a five-year gaming licence effective 7 July 2026, replacing its Northern Territory bookmaker licence. Tasmania doesn’t publish operator licence numbers, so any review quoting one for betr has invented it.
The rest, checked 3 September 2026. Sportsbet holds a Northern Territory corporate bookmaker licence, the default home for national online brands. Entain holds an NT sports bookmaker’s licence covering Ladbrokes and Neds, and it is policed actively, as the NT Racing Commission’s November 2021 fine over a Neds sign-up inducement showed. TAB is the outlier: Tabcorp holds the exclusive Victorian Wagering and Betting Licence, a 20-year term that began on 16 August 2024.
Day to day this changes nothing : all five take customers nationwide under the same federal rules. It matters when something goes wrong: your dispute escalates to whichever regulator signed the paperwork, so we set out betr’s Tasmanian gaming licence terms separately.

Neds sits outside the table because it shares Ladbrokes’ platform; its App Store listing scored 4.6 from about 5,100 ratings on the same date.
Racing: where betr is genuinely strong, and where it isn’t
The honest part first. Sky Racing streaming is not a betr exclusive: Sportsbet’s help centre confirms Sky Racing 1 and 2, TAB’s confirms SKY1 and SKY2 for logged-in account holders, and Ladbrokes advertises live racing streaming in its own App Store description. Streaming is table stakes here; on its own it is no reason to switch.
What’s harder to find elsewhere is the furniture around the vision. Blackbook tags a horse, greyhound or trotter and sends an SMS when it next runs. The Racing Live Tracker puts your bet on the lock screen about ten minutes before the jump, covering Fixed Win, Fixed Place and Tote Single on Australian and New Zealand thoroughbreds, without opening the app. Box Challenge and Jockey Challenge add 3-2-1 points markets across a meeting.
TAB’s counter-argument is structural rather than clever: it runs the tote, and no online-only brand replicates pari-mutuel pools or a slip handed over at a pub counter. More on the betr racing markets and Blackbook page.
Multi tools: the clearest gap in betr’s favour
betr publishes its limits, which is already unusual. Same Game Multi runs to 12 legs across AFL, NRL, NFL, NBA, MLB, EPL and cricket; Same Race Multi runs to 4 legs inside a single race. Both figures come from betr itself rather than a review site.
Wildcards is the one feature we could find no equivalent for: it lets you activate or change a Same Game Multi while an AFL match is in progress, on a bet you have already placed. Be precise about what that is — bet management on an existing wager, not online in-play betting, which remains prohibited for every operator on this page.
For the others we won’t invent numbers. Sportsbet offers SGMs but states no maximum in the help articles we could reach. TAB publishes a ten-leg cap on a standard online multi, which is a different product, so equating the two would be sloppy. For Ladbrokes and Neds, third-party pages quote both 13 and 20 legs, which is exactly why that cell stays blank. Apps: everyone scores well, the difference is scale
Star ratings barely separate these apps. Four of the five sit at 4.6. Review volume is the more honest signal.
betr’s iOS app holds 4.6 from roughly 23,000 ratings, weighs 133 MB, needs iOS 16.1 or later, and sat at #30 in the Australian Sports category when we checked. Payouts: betr’s strongest single claim
Rapid Withdrawals are processed several times a day, seven days a week, and where your bank supports fast payments betr says funds can land within a few hours, weekends and public holidays included. PayPal is quoted at up to one business day, international transfers at two to five. betr doesn’t publish an Australian minimum withdrawal, so we don’t quote one.
Now the careful bit. We did not verify the payout cadence of Sportsbet, TAB, Ladbrokes or Neds, so we won’t claim they batch once per business day, however often you read that. Reputation: the section where betr loses
No dressing this up. Trustpilot has betr.com.au at 1.8 out of 5 from 26 reviews, 92% of them one star, with 15 posted in the past twelve months. ProductReview.com.au has it at 1.2 out of 5 from 71 reviews. The complaints repeat: withdrawals held while extra documents are requested, accounts restricted or promo-banned soon after a win, winning bets voided, support silent for weeks.
Two pieces of context, neither an excuse. Ratings like these are normal across the whole Australian category. Punters review after a dispute, almost never after a good Saturday.
