betr is an Australian online bookmaker. The consumer business is run by betr Entertainment Aus Pty Ltd (ABN 42 607 521 835), the listed parent is betr Entertainment Limited (ASX: BBT), and since 7 July 2026 the whole operation has sat under a Tasmanian gaming licence. It books racing and sport. There are no casino games, and under Australian law there never will be.

This page is the hub: what betr actually is, what you can bet on, the features nobody else in the market has copied yet, how the money moves, and the uncomfortable gap between a 4.6 App Store rating and a 1.8 on Trustpilot. Where betr doesn’t publish a figure, we say that instead of inventing one. If you want the long-form breakdown of every screen and setting, that lives in our full betr review.

What betr is and who it suits
The company behind the brand is older than the brand itself. Michael Sullivan founded BlueBet in 2015 and floated BlueBet Holdings on the ASX on 2 July 2021. Separately, betr launched in 2022 as a Matt Tripp and Michael Sullivan venture backed by News Corp, which sold out of its stake in October 2023.
The two came together in April 2024, when BlueBet issued 265.4 million shares to betr shareholders (about 56.9% of the combined company) alongside a A$20 million raise. The merger completed on 1 July 2024, and on 14 August 2024 every consumer-facing product was folded into the betr name. The underlying platform stayed BlueBet’s, which is why the Android package is still au.com.bluebet. In April 2025 the listed entity was renamed betr Entertainment Limited under the ticker BBT, and the TopSport acquisition closed on 1 April 2025.
Two corrections worth making, because plenty of review sites get them wrong. betr does not own PointsBet. That bid failed in September 2025, and PointsBet went to MIXI. And betr is no longer a Northern Territory bookmaker; the licence moved to Tasmania in July 2026, and Tasmania does not publish operator licence numbers, so anyone quoting one is guessing.
Who it suits: punters who bet racing seriously and want the vision, form and multi tools in one app, plus footy and NRL bettors who build multis. It is a poor fit if you are chasing sign-up offers, or if what you want is a bookmaker with a long, boring track record of never arguing about payouts.
Racing and sport — and what isn’t there
Racing is the spine of the product. Thoroughbred, greyhound and harness are all covered, with fixed odds and Tote Single pricing, and Cash Out available on selected racing singles and fixed-odds multis. The betr racing markets and Sky Racing coverage are the strongest argument for opening an account here rather than somewhere else.
On the sports side you get AFL, NRL, cricket, soccer including the EPL, NBA, NFL, MLB, UFC and tennis. Same Game Multi runs to 12 legs across AFL, NRL, NFL, NBA, MLB, EPL and cricket, and Same Race Multi combines up to 4 runners in a single race. The depth of the betr sports betting markets is respectable rather than record-breaking; the multi tooling is where it pulls ahead.

Now the part some sites blur. betr has no online casino, no pokies, no poker and no live dealer tables. That was never a product decision: supplying any of it to Australian residents is prohibited under the Interactive Gambling Act 2001. Any page telling you about “betr casino games” is either confusing this bookmaker with the unrelated American product at betr.app, or it made the whole thing up.
The same Act is why in-play works the way it does. Online in-play betting is prohibited under the Interactive Gambling Act 2001: in-play bets are taken by phone only. That applies to every licensed Australian bookmaker, betr included, and it is not something an app update will change.
The features that actually set betr apart
betr markets itself as “Ahead Of The Game”, and for once the slogan has something behind it. These are the tools we found that competitors either don’t have or don’t do as well:
- Sky Racing 1 and 2 inside the app. Live vision for all three codes plus replays, on web and on iOS and Android. No separate subscription, no bouncing to another window.
- Blackbook. Add a horse, greyhound or trotter to a personal watchlist and betr sends you an SMS when it next runs. Unglamorous, and more useful than it sounds. Note that the “Blackbook AI” banner is branding; the function is a watchlist with alerts, not a tipping engine.
- Racing Live Tracker: your bet appears on the phone’s lock screen or home screen without opening the app, from 10 minutes before the jump. Fixed Win/Place and Tote Single only, Australian and New Zealand thoroughbreds only.
- Wildcards. Activate or change a Same Game Multi while the match is running. Launched during the AFL Wildcard Round and now available across AFL fixtures.
- StatWars: head-to-head statistical comparison between two players in AFL, NBA and NFL, built off official league data.
- Box Challenge and Jockey Challenge. Bet on which barrier or which hoop racks up the most points across a meeting, scored 3-2-1.
betr also promotes G1 Futures on its home page. It appears to be a futures market on Group 1 racing, but the operator publishes no mechanics for it, so treat any detailed explanation you read elsewhere with suspicion.
Why there’s no welcome bonus
If you’ve landed here looking for a sign-up offer, there isn’t one, from betr or from anybody else. Advertising inducements to open a betting account is banned across all eight Australian jurisdictions, and the New South Wales provision is drafted to catch any person publishing such an offer, not just the bookmaker. That’s why no legitimate Australian site quotes a betr welcome bonus, and why the ones that do are worth closing.
The 2026 gambling reform legislation tightened this further: no celebrity endorsements, no promotion of odds in advertising, restricted broadcast windows, and a 14-day ban on direct-marketing incentives to newly registered customers. What remains legal is offers made to existing account holders inside the app or by direct message. That is what our betr promotions guide for existing customers covers, described as product features rather than dressed up as free money.
One upside worth stating plainly: for recreational punters in Australia, winnings are not assessable income and are not taxed. That’s an ATO position on windfall gains, not a betr perk, but it applies to every dollar you take out.
Deposits, withdrawals and how fast the money moves
Deposits start at $5 on most methods with no fee and no daily limit. You can fund an account with a debit Visa or Mastercard, PayID, PayPal, Apple Pay, Google Pay or a bank transfer, with bank transfers clearing in one to 48 hours. Credit cards have been banned by law since June 2024. That is national legislation and it binds every operator, betr included. POLi is dead, shut down in Australia on 30 September 2023, so ignore any review still listing it.
Withdrawals run down three routes. Rapid Withdrawals are processed several times a day, seven days a week, and land within a few hours where your bank supports fast payments — weekends and public holidays included. PayPal typically takes up to one business day. International transfers take two to five business days. betr does not publish a minimum withdrawal amount for Australian accounts, so we’re not going to quote one.
One thing to sort before you deposit rather than after: identity verification must be completed before the account is opened and before your first bet. That has been the AUSTRAC requirement since 29 September 2024. betr’s automated check clears most people instantly; if it doesn’t, you’ll be asked for a licence, passport or a selfie with ID. Getting that done up front is the single best thing you can do to avoid the complaint pattern described in the next section.
Reputation: 1.8 on Trustpilot, 4.6 on the App Store
Here is the number most review sites bury. On Trustpilot, betr sits at 1.8 out of 5 from 26 reviews, and 92% of those are one star. On ProductReview.com.au it’s 1.2 out of 5 from 71 reviews. Meanwhile the iOS app holds 4.6 out of 5 from around 23,000 ratings. Both numbers can be true at once, because each of them is answering a different question.
App Store ratings are prompted in-app, usually after a good session, and they measure whether the software works. It does. The app is quick and the vision streams without dropping. Trustpilot and ProductReview are unprompted and self-selecting. People go there when something has gone wrong, which is why 26 reviews can sit next to 23,000 ratings and both be honest.
What the complaints actually say matters more than the star count. The recurring themes are consistent: withdrawals delayed while extra documents are requested at payout time, accounts restricted or promo-banned shortly after a win, winning bets voided, support taking weeks to respond, and bets that appear to vanish from the app. The document-request-at-payout pattern is the one that shows up most often, and it’s the one you can partly protect yourself against by completing verification before you ever deposit.
Our reading: betr’s product team is well ahead of its customer-resolution team. That is a real weakness, and any review presenting this as a flawless bookmaker has not read the complaints.

The competitor columns are deliberately qualitative. We publish exact figures for products we’ve tested this month and we’re not going to fabricate precise numbers for the ones we haven’t. Where betr clearly leads is streaming and multi tooling; where the comparison is a coin toss, we’ve said so.
Our verdict — 4.5 out of 5
We score betr 4.5 out of 5, and that score is about the product. Sky Racing inside the app, twelve-leg Same Game Multis, live SGM editing, lock-screen bet tracking and withdrawals processed on a Sunday are not standard features in this market — they’re the things you’d hope a bookmaker would build and most don’t bother with.
What we didn’t like: verification handled at payout time rather than at sign-up, which is the root of most of the anger in the user reviews; no published minimum withdrawal or live chat hours; and no published number for the Tasmanian licence, which is the regulator’s choice rather than betr’s but leaves punters unable to check anything themselves. The absence of a welcome offer is not a mark against betr. That is the law working as intended.
Short version: excellent to bet with, occasionally frustrating to get paid by. Verify first, keep your bet records, and it’s one of the better Australian apps going.
from 318 reader reports
betr gets the product right — Sky Racing inside the app, twelve-leg Same Game Multis and payouts processed seven days a week. Where it loses ground is verification: documents get requested at payout time, and that single habit drives most of its one-star reviews.
FAQ
What is betr?
betr is an Australian online bookmaker taking bets on racing and sport. It’s operated by betr Entertainment Aus Pty Ltd (ABN 42 607 521 835) and owned by ASX-listed betr Entertainment Limited. The brand replaced BlueBet across all consumer products on 14 August 2024.
Is betr legal in Australia?
Yes. betr holds a gaming licence issued by the Tasmanian Liquor and Gaming Commission, in force from 7 July 2026 for a five-year term, and accepts customers Australia-wide. The licence was previously held in the Northern Territory.
Is betr legit?
It’s a licensed, ASX-listed operator, so the business itself is legitimate. Service quality is a separate question: the iOS app rates 4.6 out of 5 from about 23,000 ratings, while Trustpilot sits at 1.8 out of 5 from 26 reviews and ProductReview at 1.2 out of 5 from 71. Most of the complaints involve documents being requested at withdrawal time.
Does betr have a sign-up bonus?
No, and neither does any other licensed Australian bookmaker. Advertising an inducement to open a betting account is banned in all eight Australian jurisdictions, and the New South Wales provision applies to anyone publishing such an offer, not just the operator. Offers to existing account holders are permitted and are delivered inside the app.
Does betr offer casino games or pokies?
No. Online casino games, pokies, poker and live dealer products cannot be supplied to Australian residents under the Interactive Gambling Act 2001. betr is a racing and sports bookmaker only. Pages claiming otherwise are usually describing the unrelated US brand at betr.app.
Who owns betr?
betr Entertainment Limited (ASX: BBT), formerly BlueBet Holdings Ltd, renamed on 9 April 2025. Michael Sullivan is executive chairman, Matt Tripp is a non-executive director, and Bill Richmond is chief operating officer. betr does not own PointsBet: that bid failed in September 2025, and PointsBet was acquired by MIXI.
How fast does betr pay out?
Rapid Withdrawals are processed several times a day, seven days a week, and arrive within a few hours where your bank supports fast payments. PayPal takes up to one business day and international transfers two to five business days. betr does not publish a minimum withdrawal amount.
