Ask an Australian punter what betr is actually for and the honest answer is racing. The sportsbook is competent, but racing is where the operator has spent its engineering hours: three codes, Sky Racing inside the app, a watchlist that texts you, a bet tracker on your lock screen. The rest of the platform behaves like a betting site. Racing is the part built by people who follow it.
There is history behind that. The platform underneath betr is the old BlueBet build, and BlueBet spent close to a decade as a racing-first bookmaker before the 2024 merger put the betr name on it. Our full betr review for Australian punters covers the wider platform; this page stays on the horses, the dogs and the trotters.

Three codes, one race field
betr covers all three Australian codes: thoroughbred, greyhound and harness. That sounds unremarkable until you notice how many newer bookmakers treat the dogs and the trots as an afterthought, with thin markets and no form or vision to go with them. betr carries them with the same fixed-odds and tote options and the same streaming access, so betting on betr harness racing works identically to betting on the gallops.
What betr does not publish is a meetings count. There is no daily list of which metro, provincial, country and international cards are carried. Strong Australian and New Zealand thoroughbred coverage can be inferred from the operator’s own documentation, since the Racing Live Tracker is limited to AU and NZ thoroughbred races. Beyond that, check the race fields on the day.
Fixed odds or Tote Single: pick your settlement
Every runner can be backed two ways. Fixed odds locks the price at confirmation, whatever the market does afterwards. Tote Single hands the bet to the parimutuel pool instead and pays the declared dividend.
The difference bites on favourites. A well-backed one usually shortens into the jump, so a fixed price taken early beats the tote more often than not. A roughie in a chaotic field goes the other way — late money elsewhere inflates the dividend past anything the fixed market offered.
Which totalisator pool a meeting settles against is not spelled out in betr’s help material, so check the bet slip. The guide to betr bet types and multi builders covers both settlement styles in depth.
betr each way betting, Australian style
Each-way here is not the British each-way, and punters who learned the format overseas get caught. In the UK a place pays a fraction of the win odds. In Australia the place market is priced separately, so an each-way bet is two bets at their own odds and your outlay doubles: ask for $20 each way and you are spending $40. Take a horse at $9.00 to win and $2.80 to place (illustrative prices, not a live betr market):
- It wins. Both legs land: $180 plus $56, a $236 return on $40.
- It runs second or third. Win leg dead, place leg pays $56, so you finish $16 up.
- Fourth or worse. Both legs lose and you are down $40.
Place terms follow the standard Australian pattern: three places in fields of eight or more, two in smaller fields, none under five runners. betr publishes no field-size table of its own; the paid placings show against the market, not in a rulebook you can read in advance.
Racing bet types at betr
| Bet type | How it works | When to use it |
|---|---|---|
| Win (fixed) | Price locked at confirmation; pays only if your runner wins | A price you expect to shorten before the jump |
| Place (fixed) | Separately priced market; pays if the runner fills a paid placing | Big fields where you like the horse, not the barrier |
| Each Way | Two bets in one — win plus place at their own odds. Outlay doubles | Mid-to-long priced runners you expect to be in the finish |
| Same Race Multi | Up to four outcomes from a single race combined into one price | A read on the shape of a race, not just the winner |
| Tote Single | Settled at the parimutuel dividend instead of a fixed price | Outsiders in unsettled markets, where late money may lift the dividend |
| Box Challenge / Jockey Challenge | Points across a meeting: 3 for a win, 2 for second, 1 for third | Meetings where you rate a rider or a rail position |
Sky Racing 1 and 2, inside the product
betr carries Sky Racing 1 and Sky Racing 2 inside the website and both mobile apps, covering all three codes, with replays afterwards. It is the most valuable thing on the racing page: vision keeps punters in one app instead of juggling a stream and a bet slip on separate screens.
There is no published access policy either. Nothing is billed for the streams, but whether a funded balance or a bet on the meeting is needed to open one is not stated anywhere we could verify. Streaming also chews data. The betr app for iOS and Android page covers device requirements.
Watch the next race on Sky Racing
Blackbook: the watchlist that texts you
The betr Blackbook is a personal watchlist. Add a horse, greyhound or harness runner and betr sends an SMS when it is next entered to race — the punter’s old notebook of “that one got no luck, follow it next start” turned into a notification.
Now the part other reviews get wrong. betr runs a banner headed “Blackbook AI”, and that is a banner name: the operator describes no machine-learning layer and no predictive rating anywhere in its own material. The functionality is the watchlist plus the alert, and any review claiming otherwise is embellishing a headline.
Racing Live Tracker
The betr Racing Live Tracker puts your bet on the phone’s lock screen so you can follow it without opening the app, a feature that fits the operator’s “Ahead Of The Game” positioning better than most of its louder marketing. The limits are specific, and outside them the tracker will not appear:
- Only Fixed Win, Fixed Place and Tote Single bets: no Same Race Multi, no exotics.
- Only Australian and New Zealand thoroughbred races. Greyhounds and harness are out.
- It shows up roughly 10 minutes before the jump, not when you place the bet.
Same Race Multi: four legs, one race
A Same Race Multi combines up to four outcomes from the same race into one price: the winner, a runner to place, another to finish top four. betr prices the combination itself, adjusting for the fact that those outcomes are related rather than independent.
That relationship is what makes an SRM dangerous. Legs in a normal multi come from different events; legs in an SRM come from one race running one way, so a single tactical error (caught wide, slow out, a rider holding on too long) kills three legs at once. betr caps racing at four legs against twelve for a Same Game Multi on sport, which tells you how the operator itself rates the correlation.
Box Challenge and Jockey Challenge
Both use the same 3-2-1 scoring (three points for a win, two for second, one for third) totalled across the nominated races at a meeting. Jockey Challenge asks which rider accumulates the most; Box Challenge asks the same of a greyhound box number. The appeal is betting on a meeting rather than a race: a rider with five competitive rides stays live even if none starts favourite, and box bias at a particular track is measurable.
The racing calendar
Spring is when Australian wagering volume doubles, and betr builds its year around it. Through the Melbourne carnival, ending with the Melbourne Cup on the first Tuesday in November, betr Melbourne Cup markets open long before the field is finalised. The specials that run during carnival change constantly, so they live on our betr racing specials and current promotions page.
betr’s name also attaches to the Darwin Triple Crown: the Northern Territory was its licensing home until the move to a Tasmanian licence in July 2026, and the company still runs a Darwin office. No standing calendar page is published for it, so we are not inventing dates or prize money. Same caution with G1 Futures, a homepage banner that looks like an all-in Group 1 market but carries no published mechanics, not even a line on non-runners or deductions.

Cash Out on racing singles
Cash Out is offered on selected racing singles and fixed-odds multis, alongside certain sports markets. The word doing the work is “selected”: availability is decided per market, and a bet that showed the button yesterday may not show one today.
The window is short: once the gates open the option usually disappears. Where it exists it earns its keep on a long-range bet whose circumstances have changed (a shocking barrier draw, a track gone from good to heavy), as long as you remember the offer already carries the bookmaker’s margin twice.
Markets close at the jump regardless. Online in-play betting is prohibited in Australia under the Interactive Gambling Act 2001: in-play bets are taken by phone only, covered on our betr live betting and phone in-play page. For pre-match football and cricket, see betr sports betting markets and multis.
Where betr racing gets criticised
Most review pages leave this out, and leaving it out would make everything above less trustworthy. betr’s public scores are poor: 1.8 out of 5 on Trustpilot from 26 reviews, 92% of them one star, and 1.2 out of 5 on ProductReview.com.au from 71 reviews.
The recurring themes hit racing punters specifically: winning bets voided after the fact, accounts restricted or hit with a promotions ban straight after a decent collect, withdrawals stalling while extra documents are requested, and support replies arriving slowly or not at all.
Set against that, the iOS app rates 4.6 out of 5 from roughly 23,000 ratings. That gap is the shape of this business: the software is strong, and the account management is what people fight about. Read how betr withdrawal times and document checks work before your first big collect, verify properly at sign-up, keep your own bet records, and do not park a four-figure balance in the betr wagering platform longer than you need to.
FAQ
What racing does betr cover?
All three Australian codes: thoroughbred, greyhound and harness, with fixed odds and Tote Single across them, deepest on Australian and New Zealand thoroughbred racing. betr publishes no daily meetings list, so check the race fields on the day.
Can I watch races on betr?
Yes. Sky Racing 1 and Sky Racing 2 stream inside the betr website and both mobile apps, covering all three codes, with replays afterwards.
Is Sky Racing free on betr?
There is no subscription charge. Streaming is part of the product, not a paid add-on. betr does not state whether a funded account or a bet on the meeting is required to open a stream, so treat confident claims either way with caution.
Can I bet each way on betr?
Yes, on races with a place market. Each way here means two separate bets at separately quoted win and place odds, so a $20 each-way bet costs $40. Paid placings depend on field size: three in fields of eight or more, two in smaller fields, none under five runners.
What is a Same Race Multi?
Up to four outcomes from one race combined into a single price — the winner plus two runners to place, for instance. Because the legs are correlated, one badly run race can lose all of them at once.
Does betr have a Blackbook?
Yes. Add a horse, greyhound or harness runner and betr sends an SMS when it is next entered to race. The “Blackbook AI” banner is a marketing name: no separate AI functionality is described beyond the watchlist and alerts.
You win some. You lose more. No streaming feed or lock-screen tracker changes the maths of a bookmaker’s margin.
